Today in Spain we are celebrating the Working Women's Day, so, I'd like to write in order to discuss about women's rights and reality.
I believe that human society during our history, in developped countries or even in those countries that, using an eufemism, we denominate "developping countries", has dedicated it's time with the only purpose of controling and leading people's lives in a futile attempt of dominating rebellious souls and change; because men are afraid, by their own nature, of losing power; which has been given to them at the unfair and unequal distribution of power of every society ever seen in human history.
At the same time, I also consider that not only in history, but even in the most current of our social realities, the woman, even perfectly and fairly inserted in the labor sector, has always been subordinated to men.
And, with this argument I'm not referring to a situation where women owns less rights or obligations than men. Actually, I could relationate this with marriage.
In marriage, a woman accepts belonging with someone, being owned by another person, risking, not only to lose their independence or autonomy, achieved after centuries of efforts of millions of women, but also to give out her own existence to another human being.
Universal suffrage was one of the most significant, the inclusion of women in the labor market, another, but ... What about stereotypes?
People still say "nurse" or "teacher" as female jobs, assigning almost exclusively to women that type of works (and I say almost, because it is true that more and more men are taking up these working-posts), as if we were not able to do those jobs called "male" such as engineering or architecture.
It's incredible that, nowadays, anyone belonging to a modern country like ours, just a country that allegedly has a clear moral and upright, a nation, which was pioneer of women's suffrage in it's time, that era when women like the Spanish lawyer Clara Campoamor fought for justice, for freedom and autonomy that every woman deserved, that every future female and male citizen diserve, according to the true universal suffrage. Leaving women and men in equal conditions. Those actions bore fruit, a fruit that women can enjoy now.
So, we must acknowledge the efforts of those strong women, since they opened the doors of our world, traditionally governed by men; a world in which, perhaps, it's our time to rule now.
